Former Evangelical Leader, Ted Haggard has broken his silence about his downfall this week and has admitted that he had sexual relations with a man when he was only 7 years old. This week happens to be the second anniversery of the scandel that brought him down. Haggard made his statements in two sermons in an Illinois Church that is pastored by a friend of his. There he admitted that his scandel was in fact sin.
He does try to place the blame on the failure that he had 2 years ago on the incident when he was 7. I just don’t buy that. In the scandel 2 years ago, there was also crystal meth use involved. You can’t tell me that he was doing meth at 7.
“There I was, 50 years old, a conservative Republican, loving the word of God, an evangelical, born-again, spirit-filled, charismatic, all those things,” he said. “But some of the things that were buried in the depths of the sea from when I was in the second grade started to rage in my heart and mind.”
“I’m very, very sorry that I sinned,” he said. “My wife — all my sin and shame fell on her. People treated her as if she had fallen. And my children — they all went through carrying my shame.”
He claims that he is all better with the help of his wife, and he doesn’t leave out God for his recovery. I hope he has truly repented of this. Some people do repent, while others just hide.

You have some very negative language in this post. I follow your blog, and you seem to promote grace, yet you attack someone who seems repentant. Maybe you should extend some of the grace you speak of to your fellow Christians. You do reference items coming from the Jimmy Swaggart camp. So I am guessing you were able to get past his failures. Grace right?
Also, who are you to say that an experience he had as a child didn’t contribute to problems as an adult? People are affected differently by sexual sins committed against them as a child. As for the meth use, I can see someone who is struggling with sexual sin themselves hating that sin and turning to drugs to “help”.

Julie, I fail to see the negative language that you see. I truly hope that he has repented and allowed the Lord to deal with that issue. I said just that in the post.
What I believe about mans failures, all of them, is they are all caused by sin. I don’t believe that certain “events” trigger sins later in life as is upheld by humanistic psychology. I believe in calling sin, sin. That is the cause, and the only “cure” is the Cross, or Christ’s Finished Work. I think you might have misread my tone in the post, and for me not conveying that properly, I am sorry. I wish no one to continue in their sin, and I do not even come close to having enjoyment of posting about that. If this guy is truly “whole” again, thank the Lord. I posted it because it was fresh in the news and wanted to put a little perspective that we can’t blame our sins and failures on the past or drugs, but that Sin is the problem and there is only one solution.
I do thank you for “following” my blog. I will assure you that I am not perfect, and I will mess up, but in this instance, I believe it was just a mis-conveyance.
God Bless You

Hrm. I, too, follow this adoring blog and am having a difficult time finding the negativity in the post.
Question: Do you watch the news? Pick the hour. 5, 6 or 10? Now that’s negative… but it’s NEWS. This story is news. When dude was two, a man took way too much liberty with him.
Sad. Horrible. But fact. However, what he did behind his wife’s back, the NEA’s back, his church’s back and in front of God’s face was a gay guy rubbing him down in Crisco, getting his groove on and getting smoking high on trailer park drugs.
Sad. Horrible. News. And has nothing to do with what happened when he was 2. Ted needs prayer in a powerful way, and considering the good he has done for the body of Christ, he will find redemption. No worries.
[Me thinks if she hates this one... wait until she visits the Wall. HA!]

Hey I was just reading your blog about Ted Haggard. When I read the story at first I got kind of defensive in Brother Teds favor. I do not know the mans heart and the physical evidence of repentance is a vocal confession. However I do understand what you are saying. Sin is sin and the only thing stronger than the sin nature is The Cross. I always get a little defensive about my fallen brethren and feel the need to restore them because, you see, I too have fallen. Praise the Lord He picked me up though! We should definitely pray for Brother Haggard. Pray that he hears and believes in his heart the message of the Cross. God Bless

Alexandria,
I know what you are saying. I really do hope that he has repented and come back to the cross. My end remark is not to say that he is lying, but it is something that people do. God bless you for allowing the Lord to pick you back up and continue on.
