I love checking out the site Slaughter of the Sheep. I wanted to share an article that the admin over there wrote, that I myself have had issues with. I had posted about Rick Pino in the past, and many comments came in dissenting to me speaking out against it. Here is a comparison of the Bible versus what Rick Pino has as worship in his sessions.
Rick Pino:
Mess us up, mess us up in your presence, oh God…
Mess us up, mess us up in your presence, oh God…
Mess us up, mess us up in your presence, oh God…
Mess us up, mess us up in your presence, oh God… etc…
King David:
PSALMS 108
1 A Song, a Psalm of David. My heart is steadfast, O God; I will sing, I will sing praises, even with my soul.
2 Awake, harp and lyre; I will awaken the dawn!
3 I will give thanks to Thee, O LORD, among the peoples; And I will sing praises to Thee among the nations.
4 For Thy lovingkindness is great above the heavens; And Thy truth reaches to the skies.
5 Be exalted, O God, above the heavens, And Thy glory above all the earth.
Rick Pino:
Grab your partner, do-si-do… Don’t be shy just let it go… Grab your partner, do-si-do… Don’t be shy just let it go… Grab your partner, do-si-do… Mess us up!!!
King David:
PSALMS 145
1 A Psalm of Praise, of David. I will extol Thee, my God, O King; And I will bless Thy name forever and ever.
2 Every day I will bless Thee, And I will praise Thy name forever and ever.
3 Great is the LORD, and highly to be praised; And His greatness is unsearchable.
4 One generation shall praise Thy works to another, And shall declare Thy mighty acts.
5 On the glorious splendor of Thy majesty, And on Thy wonderful works, I will meditate.
6 And men shall speak of the power of Thine awesome acts; And I will tell of Thy greatness.
7 They shall eagerly utter the memory of Thine abundant goodness, And shall shout joyfully of Thy righteousness.
8 The LORD is gracious and merciful; Slow to anger and great in lovingkindness.
9 The LORD is good to all, And His mercies are over all His works.
10 All Thy works shall give thanks to Thee, O LORD, And Thy godly ones shall bless Thee.
11 They shall speak of the glory of Thy kingdom, And talk of Thy power;
12 To make known to the sons of men Thy mighty acts, And the glory of the majesty of Thy kingdom.
13 Thy kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, And Thy dominion endures throughout all generations.
14 The LORD sustains all who fall, And raises up all who are bowed down.
15 The eyes of all look to Thee, And Thou dost give them their food in due time.
16 Thou dost open Thy hand, And dost satisfy the desire of every living thing.
17 The LORD is righteous in all His ways, And kind in all His deeds.
18 The LORD is near to all who call upon Him, To all who call upon Him in truth.
19 He will fulfill the desire of those who fear Him; He will also hear their cry and will save them.
20 The LORD keeps all who love Him; But all the wicked, He will destroy.
21 My mouth will speak the praise of the LORD; And all flesh will bless His holy name forever and ever.
Rick Pino:
Put your hands in the air… Wave ‘em like you just don’t care… Put your hands in the air… Wave ‘em like you just don’t care… Put your hands in the air… Wave ‘em like you just don’t care… Put your hands in the air… Wave ‘em like you just don’t care… Grab your partner, do-si-do… Don’t be shy just let it go… Grab your partner, HE’S MESSING UP RELIGION TONIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Mess us up, mess us up, in your presence, oh God… Mess us up, mess us up, in your presence, oh God…etc.
King David:
PSALMS 9
1 For the choir director; on Muth-labben. A Psalm of David. I will give thanks to the LORD with all my heart; I will tell of all Thy wonders.
2 I will be glad and exult in Thee; I will sing praise to Thy name, O Most High.
3 When my enemies turn back, They stumble and perish before Thee.
4 For Thou hast maintained my just cause; Thou dost sit on the throne judging righteously.
5 Thou hast rebuked the nations; Thou hast destroyed the wicked; Thou hast blotted out their name forever and ever.
6 The enemy has come to an end in perpetual ruins, And Thou hast uprooted the cities; The very memory of them has perished.
7 But the LORD abides forever; He has established His throne for judgment,
8 And He will judge the world in righteousness; He will execute judgment for the peoples with equity.
9 The LORD also will be a stronghold for the oppressed, A stronghold in times of trouble,
10 And those who know Thy name will put their trust in Thee; For Thou, O LORD, hast not forsaken those who seek Thee.
I think by now you get the point. Praise, true praise, is directed from man toward God. It is when we humble our hearts before our Heavenly Father and thank Him for His goodness, faithfulness, salvation, and greatness. It is when we express our love for Him. We humble ourselves and declare that He is great and greatly to be praised. It is an expression of thanksgiving.
Worldy worship is directed in the opposite direction, and it is a very selfish form of worship. In worldly worship, man calls out to God and says, “mess us up,” give me this, give me that! This is not God-centered worship; this isn’t worship at all! This is demanding God to tingle our flesh so that we can jump about in a mindless whirl, distracted from praise, prayer, and feasting upon God’s holy Word, by which we grow and are nourished.
Satan doesn’t have to try very hard to subvert the modern church. The only thing he has to do is keep people distracted with fleshly highs and mindless trance dances. People just don’t see that praise isn’t directed towards man at all…it’s directed toward God. Praise isn’t about what we can get from God, and we don’t do it so that we can get drunk on the “spirit” and be knocked in the floor for a couple of hours, we do it to express His wonderful greatness, and gratitude towards Him for all that He is, all that He ever was, and all that He ever will be. Screaming out to God and saying “gimme this” and “gimme that” isn’t praise, it’s spiritual gluttony.

oMG…”spiritual gluttony”; couldn’t be more precise than that. Totally agreed.
Question: is this guy getting hype in the US? When I see this kind of strange fruit i compared them to other ministries like Hillsong United, who also make kids(and me) jump and get crazy; but as a youth leader i’ve seen that they, through all the jumping and dancing, get you close to Jesus in that worship space, and that is their main cause and effort. What I saw about R.Pino is that the waving of hands doesn’t get you any close to have a personal encounter with God.

Thanks for your comment, and all the way from Panama!
Yes, this guy is getting hype here in the U.S. I agree with you about the motivation of Worship. If we are to teach our youth about true worship, this thing wouldn’t be a problem. But people like this get in the minds of the youth, that ONLY the mindless trance like dancing is worship. It couldn’t be more wrong.
God Bless

so youre saying that because those kids dance around and “jump around in a trance”, they arent praising??

Simple acts like jumping around cause the group is, is not in itself considered praising. Praise begins in the heart. It isn’t just expounded solely on movement, etc. What you see in these types of groups, is a “Bandwagon” movement of kids following the crowd in hype because everyone else is. That isn’t to say that there aren’t kids there that honestly want to worship and praise a Holy God. There are remnants of true worshippers in any movement who do worship in Spirit and in Truth.

I think I’ll save $45 (that is the funniest thing I have heard by the way) and worship God the way the Bible clearly states to. There are mosh pits I could be involved in locally, if I wanted a chaotic riot type flesh driven service in the form of worship.

I am not sure there are too many worship leaders that will be able to hold a candle to the annointing God gave David. He knew they were going to be scripture, they were going to be eternal when He gave those songs to David. When was the last time you worte a song that was going to be scripture? Speaking of David, I recall a story where he was dancing and making a fool of himself lost in a worship “trance”. He was highly criticized for that by people who thought they had the exclusive rights to what true worship was. Jesus had to fight the same battle with misconceptions about what kind of environments he ministered in and what kind of people He associated with. Be careful not to assume you know someone’s heart. Only God does. I am 37 but can remember cutting loose and having fun as a young man. I only wish it was in a Christian environment with other Christian kids. Unfortunately, it was not. Seeing both sides, I would be OK with my 13 yr old son dancing and praising to one of Rick’s “fun” songs. I don’t that much about Mr. Pino and I don’t know his heart him but I have heard enough to know there are songs he has which only speak of God’s glory and holiness. I can dance to that. Well, not really if you ask my wife. We are all at different places in our walk and there are many forms of worship. Music is only one form. God bless

Let me begin by saying I did not intentionally come online looking for confrontation regarding Rick Pino- I found your Blog all over the web when I Googled his name looking for some videos, etc. I was very disturbed by the tone of this & some other blog entries on this topic & was shocked at how judgemental people are, so here’s my feedback for what it’s worth…
Personally, I don’t think it’s worth my time & energy to go into great detail as to why so many people that are judging Rick Pino are so wrong on so many points… But I will point out 2 things quickly- 1. Judging is as much a sin as any other- & it’s a fine line you’re walking. 2. Read 1 Samuel 26 as one example of the warning God gives about touching His anointed. Even if you have a negative opinion about Rick, you should respect that he is invited to the “Ramp” by it’s founder Karen Wheaton & has shared a platform & yes- even do-si-doed with- Dutch Sheets, who are both HIGHLY respected & anointed individuals. And get educated before you go rantong on the et about something you seemingly know very little about. Go to http://www.theramp.org/ & listen to the video clips on the main page of what they’re teaching these young people… it’s NOT just about “trance style” music & hype… Also- check out many other of Rick Pino’s videos/songs… You’ve isolated ONE single 10 minute segment without knowing the before or after of this segment & are judging him on this?? You should check out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zgmBP6cCufg & http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mITrhMw81zY then maybe you’ll rethink your position.
By the way- Jesus did things a little less then traditional for His time & was hated by the religious leaders- but He shook a generation & changed the course of history. Rick & many like him are ministering to this generation in a language they will understand & 1200 young people at the Ramp is fruit that talks. How many people have you lead to Jesus lately & using what methods? Probably not 1200 like the Ramp & the thousands of others at other venues Rick has been at.
I pray the scales would fall from your eyes. May you seek forgiveness for being so judgemental.
As a side note- even if you were right in your opinion, then the right thing to do would be to pray for Rick- that either his eyes be opened or that he would be removed from this position of influence. By tearing one another apart on the net we are only playing right into the enemy’s hands- & causing further divison…
Many blessings on you & yours!
For HIS Kingdom!

Robin,
I appreciate you taking the time to comment, but I want to state my case too.
I do not agree one bit that judging another christian is wrong. I actually wrote a blog about it that I think you should read, instead of me rehashing it here. http://imablogger.net/2008/08/28/are-christians-to-judge-and-expose-error-of-others/
This point also addresses why simply just praying for Rick Pino isn’t the only answer. I do pray for Him and others like him, but Paul himself did not do such things. He called people out. (read the blog for more info)
I don’t think that you should compare Jesus’ ministry on the earth with Rick Pino. Jesus purpose on the earth was to come and die for mankind’s sins. Rick Pino is making a living doing this and expressing extrabiblical worship “techniques” into the body of Christ, which he knows will be readily accepted by a younger generation. We are not to change the language of anything of the Lord. The Lords word is final and true, and the Holy Spirit speaks to hearts. We are not to try to water down or sensitize the message in any way. The message is that We are sinners and if we don’t accept Christ alone and put our faith in His Finished Work, we WILL go to hell. I am not convicted for being so, “Judgemental” as you put it. The scales fell off of my eyes 3 years ago, thank the Lord while I was following blindly a ministry that was doing every church growth movement and being seeker sensitive in every aspect. They started changing the language in hopes to not offend people. The true word of God was rarely read from and faith started to be put in self. No, I am not convicted for trying to warn people to Test EVERYTHING with the word of God.
Read in my other blogs where I exposit that the scripture that you threw at me in Samuel about “Touch Not God’s Anointed” is so falsely thrown out too much. People do not understand that context. First of all that scripture speaks of a “Physical” touch and even more, a physical touch unto Death. We can’t just use scripture to fit what we want it to say. That is what this blog was created to talk about. People are making doctrines out of passages that are not correct.
That 1 10 minute segment is enough. If a ministry that I follow and I felt was on track, EVER did anything unscriptual or heretical like what Rick Pino did….I would leave in a heartbeat. This is serious stuff. Souls are at stake. Time is short. We can’t play because we “like” someone. Faith in Christ and Him Crucified alone will save us. If our focus is off, we are doomed.
