There are five seperate places that comprise the underworld of departed spirits:
1.Tartaros, 2. Paradise(Abraham’s bosom) 3. Hell(Hades) 4. the bottomless pit(abyss), and 5. the Lake of Fire(gehenna).
We will be dealing with Tartaros today.
TARTAROS
Tartaros, which is a Greek word translated “Hell,” is used only once in the New Testament, although references are made to this place in other Scriptures:
“God spared not the ANGELS WHO SINNED, but cast them down to HELL (tartaros), and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto Judgement” (II Pet. 2:4)
This prison of Hell is a special place of punishment for the fallen Angels that sinned:
“The SONS OF GOD (Angels) saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose” (Gen. 6:2).
The wicked Angels in committing fornication with women were judged harshly by God:
“The Angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation, He has reserved in EVERLASTING CHAINS UNDER DARKNESS unto the Judgment of the Great Day” (Jude, Vs. 6).
Tartaros is described as the deepest part of Hell. Jesus Christ descended into this place, and preached to the fallen Angels, after His Death on the Cross:
“Christ also has once suffered for sins…also He went and PREACHED UNTO THE SPIRITS IN PRISON; Which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited IN THE DAYS OF NOAH” (I Pet. 3:18-20).
Therefore, it is revealed that tartaros is a prison for the bound fallen angles (I Pet. 3:19), located under the Earth (IIPet. 2:4), a place of bondage for fallen Angels until their judgement (Jude, Vs. 6), a place visited by Christ when He decended into Hell (Ps. 16:10; I Pet. 3:19), a place of darkness (II Pet. 2:4; Jude, Vs. 6), a place of eternal fire (Jude, Vs. 7) and a place of vengeance (Jude, Vs. 7).
