The pope this week reasserted the universal primacy of the Catholic Church and said all other denominations of Christianity were not true churches. His reasoning behind this: Because Jesus only formed one church…but I believe it is because he is forming an alliance against the Jedi.  Doesn’t the pope look just like emperor Palpatine?

Anyhow, I think it is pretty sad to implement these kind of doctrines.  These religions that do this (yes there are others) are like those kids back in elementary school that form these stupid cliques and tell everyone that only the cool kids can hang out with them (it’s obvious i wasn’t there) and that everything else sucked.  The pope is pretty much instilling fear in the masses to stay with catholicism or go to hell.  Whatever happened to “Whosoever will”?  My bible still has that part in there.

I’m just waiting for the next papal statement:

“Catholics have firmer buns and thighs.  All other denominations are flabby girlie men.”

Tony you’ve totally misunderstood the teaching of One Church by the bishop of Rome.

    Q. In your opinion how many Church(es) did Jesus create?

  2. Tony

The “church” are the followers of Christ. People who put their faith ONLY in Christ and what he did at the Cross. No hierarchical bodies of dogmatic pomp and circumstance. Not a building, not an organization. But those that trust only in the Finished work of Christ knowing that you have Free access to the Father because of Christ’s Death. No more mediator. Our only covering being Christ who is the High Priest.

  3. sorry Tony but Jesus created one visible , tangent Church not some invisible entity, teaching this way and that. The Church of Christ (the official name of Catholicism) has always been structured and that’s biblical! Now you decided to go off in several directs listing all your requirements carry to break those down one by one and actually see if you’ve made an accurate case for and against?

Finally Christ is the High Priest of his Church no argument there and because he is authentic Christian priesthood still exists.

  4. btw, that picture is a nasty piece of work for any one claiming to be Christian to use as a headline for their blogging.

It kinda stresses a fear gospel to me, a propagandist point of view nevermind a misrepresentation of another creation of God. have you actually met Benedict XVI to slander him in such a way?

I understand you have strong feelings about your faith however, bearing false-witness with such satire will not strength it and quite frankly it shows the weakness of your position that will not impress those you hope to evangelize

  5. Tony

I have not met your pope, but he does resemble Emperor Palpatine, does he not? If I looked like someone else, it wouldn’t be wrong for someone to point that out. Your problem lies with your infallible view of the man who is by every account just a man. He is no more higher to God, than you are, Kevin. We are all under the covering of Christ.

If my pastor looked like a character from Star Wars, I would say so. I respect the man, but I can also have a sense of humor.

As far as the headline goes, you are right that it is Satire. Just an in your face title, before I discovered SEO. As you can see this hasn’t been viewed many times.

    Hey Tony,

lets take this one step at a time, you wrote,

“Your problem lies with your infallible view of the man who is by every account just a man. He is no more higher to God, than you are, Kevin.”

Your problem is misunderstanding what Catholics believe. Did you know the pope goes to confession? Catholics do not place the bishop of Rome above God or even on par with God, Catholics understand Jesus had a plan and to follow Jesus is to follow all of that plan and that includes obedience to the teaching authority he laid down. The pope is not assumed impeccible in all he does nor is he infallable in all he says this is not what the doctrine of infallablity proclaims. The chief apostle Peter was a sinner yet he was still Christ’s choice for prime apostle, for chief steward and every King (Jesus) has his officials and court.

Isa 22:21-24 teaching of the prime minister/steward for the king

21 And I will clothe him with thy robe, and will strengthen him with thy girdle, and will give thy power into his hand: and he shall be as a father to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and to the house of Juda. 22 And I will lay the key of the house of David upon his shoulder: and he shall open, and none shall shut: and he shall shut, and none shall open. 23 And I will fasten him as a peg in a sure place, and he shall be for a throne of glory to the house of his father. 24 And they shall hang upon him all the glory of his father’s house, divers kinds of vessels, every little vessel, from the vessels of cups even to every instrument of music.

    Catholic Church Catachism
paragraph 442 - Peter as the foundation of Christ’s Church

From the beginning this acknowledgment of Christ’s divine sonship will be the centre of the apostolic faith, FIRST professed by Peter as the Church’s foundation.49

paragraph 552 - authority of Peter

553 Jesus entrusted a specific authority to Peter as first pope: “I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.”287 The “power of the keys” designates authority to govern the house of God, which is the Church. Jesus, the Good Shepherd, confirmed this mandate after his Resurrection: “Feed my sheep.”288 The power to “bind and loose” connotes the authority to absolve sins, to pronounce doctrinal judgements, and to make disciplinary decisions in the Church. Jesus entrusted this authority to the Church through the ministry of the apostles289 and in particular through the ministry of Peter, the only one to whom he specifically entrusted the keys of the kingdom.

now go back and read Isaiah 22:21-24

this is just for starters I know the Christian faith well and I ask you to enter into discover of it with me.

step 2, understanding the doctrine of infallability

thought it would be easier to simply provide several links

    2. Papal Infallibility, what is it, when is applied and what must take place,

    http://www.catholic.com/library/Papal_Infallibility.asp

short excerpt - The Catholic Church’s teaching on papal infallibility is one which is generally misunderstood by those outside the Church. In particular, Fundamentalists and other “Bible Christians” often confuse the charism of papal “infallibility” with “impeccability.” They imagine Catholics believe the pope cannot sin. Others, who avoid this elementary blunder, think the pope relies on some sort of amulet or magical incantation when an infallible definition is due…

  8. Tony

Let me explain what I belive the passage in Isaiah means:

    21. And I will clothe Him with your robe, and strengthen Him with your girdle, and I will commit your government into His hand; and He shall be a father to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and to the house of Judah
(((Such terminology could only describe God’s Son and our Saviour. Whereas Judah had been plagued with “Shebnas,” she will now, at long last be let by “My Servant.” Then the “government shall be upon His shoulder” - Isa. 9:6))))

    22. And the key of the house of David will I lay upon His shoulder; so He shall open, and none shall shut; and He shall shut, and none shall open.
(((The spiritual “key” of the house of David had to do with the Promise that God made to David concerning the coming of the Messia, and that the Messiah would come through his family - II Sam. chapt 7)))

    23. And I will fasten Him as a Nail in a sure place; and He shall be for a glorious throne to His Father’s House.
(((Christ is Jehovah’s sure Nail, fastened in a sure place, i.e., the heavenlies; no one who is suspended upon Him shall ever be confounded, but, on the contraray, shall be enobled

    24. And they shall hang upon Him all the glory of His Father’s House, the offspring and the issue, all vessels of small quantity, from the vessels of cups, even to all the vessels of flagons.
(((Multiple millions can say that upon that “nail” they have hung their eternal hopes for a golden tomorrow and blissful future. None will be disappointed)))

    ONE MORE VERSE
    25. In that day, saith the LORD of Hosts, shall the nail that is fastened in the sure place be removed, and be cut down, and fall; and the burden that was upon it shall be cut off: for the LORD has spoken it
(((The “Nail” in the sure place is Christ. At His Crucifixion, He was “cut down”, but not for Himself, but rather for lost humanity - I Pet. 2:24 ; IJn. 23:2 ; II Cor. 5:19 ; Eph. 2:16 ; Col. 2:14 - Through His Resurrection, however, the Nail is put back firmly in place and will never be removed)))

  9. Kevin

Your analysis of Isaiah (Isaias) is all wrong.

verse 20 - 20 And it shall come to pass in that day, that I will call my servant Eliacim the son of Helcias,

Eliacim is a servant of the King not the King himself.

You see the passage is an example of the King choosing a steward for his kingdom in his absence. Therefore as an example of Christ’s kingly function, the one chosen in verse 21 cannot be an example of Christ but an example of his steward.

Jesus is above the steward in authority but it is in the king’s/Christ’s authority the steward becomes a temporal authority, the peg/the nail later to be removed upon the return of the King (the second coming of Christ)

You’ve missed the obvious nature of verse 25 (however glad you’ve decided to quote it)

Christ never loses his authority or burden. The mere fact you’d claim your future sins are forgiven already is prove of that. Christ bares our sins and to believe in an eternal atonement means that does not end. Verse 25 is written with a handing over of authority as in pope/steward to master/king.

Peter and his apostolic successors are the stewards handing over their temporal authority to Christ the high priest at the end of time, Christ’s second coming.

All this belief is based in who Christ is as King of Kings, your position however reduces Christ’s kingship instead of exulting it as you’ve incorrectly assumed.

  10. Kevin

    one last thing,

you started off writing “Let me explain what I belive the passage in Isaiah means”

I don’t have to claim to know what I alone believe the passage in Isaiah means or for that fact any other part of scripture means,
since I’ve got a 2000 year old interpretative authority which is consistent to rely upon and is greater than simply one person called me, that of course is the teaching authority of God’s Church.

    Q. how do you know the Holy Christian bible is inspired?

  11. Tony

Kevin, there is a new post on Catholicism on the front page if you are interested.
    http://www.imablogger.net

  12. Kevin

I’d perfer to continue our discussion here on your misrepresentation of the person Benedict XVI and the office of the papacy.

For the record Bendict XVI doesn’t at all look like the Star Wars character of Evil, Emperor Palpatine. Clearly the photo is doctored and morph’d with the current pope’s face layered over the Palpatine regalia.

I truly wish you would do the right thing and take down that image as retaining it leads me to think of you as less than Christian.

    Peace of Christ

addendum I read your front page article however the title already betrays yet another slander against your Christian brethren, Catholics.

  13. Tony

If I believe that Catholicism is a false doctrine, I will continue my stance on it, just Like I believe that the Prosperity Gospel is a false doctrine is wrong, and I will continue to blog about it. I believe that the “Purpose Driven Life” is a false doctrine and I will continue to blog about it. I believe that the emergent church movement is a false doctrine and I will continue to blog about it. It is my blog, and if you feel I am “less than christian” for pointing out what I believe to be error, than I am sorry, but that is why this blog exists.

  14. Kevin

The problem Tony is not continuing with a stance but continuing with slander.

I don’t mind you speaking against Catholic Christianity but I do hope you would attack what it actually teaches instead of attacking cariactures of the faith and people.

As far as Prosperity Gospel preaching adn the Purpose Driven Life models I think we would be in much agreement on the falsehoods of each.

  15. Tony

I just wanted you to know it isn’t just “Catholicism” that has been a target of a “satire” by me. I don’t know if you are aware of the Fake revival that had gone on in Lakeland Florida, by a canadian minister named Todd Bentley. But I have been outspoken against him and photoshopped a picture of him and wrote a satirical piece about him too. You can see that here:
    http://imablogger.net/2008/07/30/todd-bentley-confesses-emma-is-really-a-rodent/
The point being that there are people I know, and possibly people in my own church that believe this guy to be the real deal. I would not hold back to them in my feelings, and the satire is just that…satire.

  16. Kevin

I think I’ll come back in a few days to see if you’ve taken my advice, in the meantime here are two audio links testimonial from people who during their walk with the Lord Jesus had the same misconceptions as yourself on Catholicism

  17. Tony

Thats fine, but i could likewise send you scores of links of Catholics seeing the light and turning from Catholicism to Christianity. We could both provide links all day long. Here is one link in my “links” section of a man who left Roman Catholicism. http://pro-gospel.org/x2/

  18. Kevin

Here’s the key, numbers alone don’t make the strongest point for if it did, our idea of “Church”, would be true only because more people join than leave and we both know that people join and leave our communities every day by either coming closer to communion with Christ or by moving further away.

Both the persons I mention were responsible as pastors for the spiritual welfare of others and for their own families financial welfare through ministry. They aren’t your run-of-the-mill everyday laity they knew their fundamental doctrine extremely well and taught it to others, but when faced with the challenge of rediscovering early Christianity had to grapple with the anti-Catholic/anti-Christian indoctrination they had received.

Both ended up heeding the call of intellectual honesty back to first Christianity.

  19. Man, look at all these whiny comments. IT’S A F***G JOKE, MORON!

    http://www.kobrascorner.com/opine/wafers-donohue-catholic-league.php

  20. The picture is a joke similar to joke pictures of our political candidates that abound on the internet. He was making a joke which obviously some of you got offended by. You all are about ready to lynch the man for goodness sakes, lighten up! If you are easily offended by satire, don’t read his posts but he is allowed in this country to poke fun at whatever he wants to just as you have the right to ignore it if you don’t like it.
